A Year of Dandy Does
Despite the constant horrors that have plagued society this year, a “written off” year, 2016 was was more than alright for us. In fact it was one of our best yet as a couple. Happy Birthday Dandy Does!
At some point at the tail end of 2015, we felt frustrated and trapped. Luckily, not in our relationship but within our suburban lifestyle. We lost sight of what we were gaining through buying our own place and assumed that keeping up with the Jones’ was our only salvation. Something wasn’t right, and we couldn’t work out what it was! Neither of us would describe ourselves, our lives or situations as conventional so trying to ‘fit in’ only left us running for the hills (or the airport!)
We blamed everything around us for how we felt. We were having the same conversations and it felt like no matter where we went and what we did or who we saw, our weekends were on repeat. We felt like we lived somewhere which limited us to how much we could be us, how much we could be Dandy.
But the thing is, you can’t blame your situation. It’s up to you to make the change you want to see in the world – in your world. No one was stopping us from being us but us. And we were the boring ones; we weren’t being interesting people.
We needed a change so we booked an adventure.
2016 started with a bang! We travelled to 3 countries back to back and the ball kept rolling: Stockholm, Copenhagen, Budapest, Protaras, Paris and Lisbon! As well as that we started explore our local area more – making an effort to visit exhibitions in neighbouring towns. Becoming local tourists and exploring places we’d visited countless times but with fresh eyes.
This year we became interesting people, not because our lives became more interesting but that we became more interested in life.
Our biggest take away from last year: DO MORE. You will inevitable see, learn, discover, experience, try and be more. What have you got to lose?
